Custom Recovery

If you are done rooting your MyPhone Agua Rio, next top will be flashing TWRP or ClockworkMod (CWM) Recovery for your smartphone. Rooting is not that enough for you to enjoy custom mods and ROMs as most of them can be applied through flashing from a custom recovery. If you have read and understood what is a custom recovery, you will surely be wanting to port it into your MyPhone Agua Rio.

This article will be presenting you a guide how to install TWRP or CWM Recovery to your Rio. What you will need to do is carefully read the steps for this to be successful.

Disclaimer: Flash at your own risk.

TWRP / CWM Recovery for MyPhone Agua Rio

Required:
  • Superuser rights (Root Access).
  • Updated Busybox installed (download Busybox Installer and install it to your phone. Open the app and install the Busybox binaries on /system/xbin/)

1 Download Recovery Installer app below that corresponds your MyPhone Agua Rio Model and Firmware version then place it to your SD-card.

2 From your device, find Recovery Installer.apk in your SD-card and install it normally. (If you can't install it, go to Settings - Security - and check Unknown Sources. Now install it again.)

3 Launch m|p RIO Recovery Installer app from your app drawer.

4 Select the recovery you wanted to install. (TWRP and CWMR are custom recoveries. Stock Recovery is the default recovery installed by MyPhone.)

5 Confirm the Installation. (Wait for the process to be done.)

6 Finally, reboot your phone to recovery. (Turn off your phone then press and hold Volume up + Volume down + Power button all at once then further choose volume up for Recovery)

7 Enjoy flashing!

Recommended Method using Computer

Refer to this main thread for flashing Clockwork Recovery for your MyPhone Agua RIO any version.

Alternative Method (Without using Computer)

1 Download and Install Mobile Uncle from Play Store

2 Also, download this already created CWM recovery image for S5500 or S5501 v1.06, if its not your model, you have to find a way to get an image otherwise do the first method using Recovery Installer. Place it anywhere on your SD-card

3 Open Mobile Uncle Tools from your app drawer and click Recovery update.

4 Look for the recovery.img that you have downloaded on step 2 and select it.

5 When prompted to flash the recovery, select OK. Wait a little while.

6 If the process goes well, go to Into Recovery Mode and select Reboot into recovery mode, press OK.

7 Your MyPhone Agua Rio will now boot into ClockworkMod Recovery mode.

If you can't boot to your custom recovery after trying the methods above, you have to follow this method from the link below in order to fix and reflash CWM recovery for your RIO.

Flash CWM Recovery to any MediaTek Device (like MyPhone Agua RIO)

This works on any version of RIO, I hope you can solve your problems now.

  3. There is no stock recovery anymore when giving the option to go into recovery the phone just boots as normal (although a little slower.) This has also taken away the ability to factory reset. when trying to reset it gives the warning everything will be erased then just reboots as normal with no change.

I have been told this may be due to the two versions of the Rio Possibly having different bootloaders but I don't know. Just for the record the phone I have is the new version (S5501)

    1. it could possibly due to its bootloader. by the way, have you successfully rooted your Rio, have you confirmed it using root checker? Also, have you tried flashing TWRP?

Please tell me what you have done before you have gotten to that situation.

  4. the phone was factory fresh before starting on the above article. I did verify the root with root checker,it was successful. I also tried to install the original recovery and change to TRWP but after the initial CMW flash the RIO recovery installer app does not seem to be making any changes.

    1. seems like your bootloader was locked up, your boot.img prevents the flashing.

Do you have a friend that has a stock recovery and cwm recovery like yours? or have you backed them up? so we can do flashing thru sp flash tool. however, if your bootloader was still locked, it's myphones work.

    1. Hi there!

You have the option whether you like to tweak your RIO or not. Why android users do this? simply because they want to optimize their smartphone's performance and apply a newer look/taste for their device. Read my article about what is rooting and its pros and cons, it will definitely answer all your questions. This current article is the next step after rooting so we can flash or install more custom modifications in our device (since most mods requires flashing on custom recovery for it to be applied). 8-)

    2. wow..fast reply..thanks..before i read your reply i followed your steps on how to root cellphone..then i saw the SuperSU app that you mention..is my cellphone already rooted???so if my cellphone is rooted, what should i do next???thanks sorry for asking so much question..

      Delete
    3. You are welcome. Well, CONGRATS! You have rooted your phone!

Now, it depends upon you on what will you do next. If your purpose is just to use root-required apps, then you are done. Otherwise if you want to apply custom mods, scripts or even ROM's and themes, then proceed to flashing a custom recovery which was already shown on the article above.

      Delete
    4. now this makes me think again..OMG..so what's with the custom mods, scripts, or ROM's...i know this is too much..spoonfeeding..yeah spoonfeeding..that's it..but i think right now you're the only one who can help..want to be your follower too..hehehe

      Delete
    5. custom mods or modifications are actually apps that has been tweaked to add more features or taste, scripts are commands which can run on background to boost a specific or overall performance of your device, ROMs like what you are having right now (is a stock ROM) which is the whole system software of your device which may or may not consist mods and scripts, etc. having custom ROM is an unofficial system that contains a lot of changes in the system

  14. Good Day Sir Princeton!

Just an update: I did update my Rio to V1.17. Well I made a mistake by ticking the SD Card in Storage Settings (Default Write Disk). Anyway, I did it hehe. I will try to mod this Rio but I guess I like it (for now) the stock. It's still in warranty period so I might enjoy this for now. You know I tried to learn to be a developer but its hard (well nice try i guess hehe). I had my Samsung S5570 as my specimen (flashing different types of ROM - cyanogen, miui, lewa, hybrid, etc.). It's good to have someone who entertain newbies! I think I am your foolllloooowwwweeerrrr nnoooowwww. (creepy)

    Great Job!

    1. Wow, that's great, good work!

Even you do modifications, you can still revert to your stock state whenever you like, then you'll get your warranty back. Whenever something goes wrong with your device during applying tweaks and cant get it fixed, just go to your phone's service center then act like a fool :-) it works like a charm =))

    1. Good day, have you successfully rooted your Rio?

  16. Good Day Sir Princeton,

    Thanks for the appreciation!

Well, like samsung, a website " Sammobile" caters downloadable Stock ROMs & may flash it via CMW. I find it easy doing this whenever something went wrong after flashing a CustROM. I just flash fresh zip file Stock ROM & repeat the whole process. I think doing a Nandroid Backup is not 100% (I guess I read it somewhere) so better flash it with fresh stock ROM (safe). However, my Rio's case, even there's available CMW, it could be more better if we have a zip file stock ROM for Rio & flash it via CMW (though we can do a nandroid backup). I just updated my Rio to V1.17 so maybe the file above you gave needs an update too hehe. By the way, this app "Framaroot"(never tried it yet), can it remove a root?or root genius perhaps?

Glad to here from you. Keep it up!

    ReplyDelete

    1. I agree. I salute Sammobile for that.
Yes it is always good to have a flashable Stock ROM and since I've heard it from you, I will write an article about Rio's available ROMs.

      Delete
    2. Good Day Sir Princeton!

I had this "late reading" about framaroot. Well, I can't help it but I did root (using framaroot) my Rio then installed seeder 2.0. I noticed a significant change. I had this issue in keyboard when doing fast typing, it does not follow well so I had to redo the text. When I installed seeder, there's an improvement. Now that you mentioned you will write an article on flashable stock ROM for Rio, that would be great. Someone in xda made a CustROM for Rio also in miui india.

Kudos in writing an article for Rio!

      Delete
    3. i think it's a bug with RIO 'cause sometimes it just lags a bit. Well, seeder is a great app, you'll see significant increase in performance.. Yeah I hope I can finish the Stock ROM soon so watch out for it :)

    4. You know I found a TUT for dumping ROM using SPFT in youtube for Rio. I just remembered that this is also the method I used for flashing an update for xbox 360 JTAG/RGH (dumping method). Maybe you may find it interesting.

      I'll keep in touch!
